Nashville area cross country programs brought home five team titles and three individual champions Saturday at the TSSAA’s cross country state meet at the Steeplechase course at Percy Warner Park.

Brentwood Academy swept the Division II-AA boys and girls individual titles to help cruise to both team titles for the second consecutive year.

Brentwood Academy sophomore Carter Cheeseman won his second straight DII-AA cross country title, winning in 15:54.04. His time was more than 15 seconds faster than second-place finisher Will Peters (16:09.29) of MBA. Brentwood Academy’s boys won with 22 points for its third straight team title. Father Ryan was runner-up with 79.

Brentwood Academy junior Meredith Helton won the DII-AA girls race in 18:53.98, which was nearly 25 seconds ahead of teammate and second-place finisher Claire Cheeseman (19:18.85). Brentwood Academy’s girls won the DII-AA meet with 19 points. Girls Preparatory School was second with 63.

Nashville area teams also won team titles in Class AAA boys, Class AAA girls and Class A/AA girls.

Brentwood won the Class AAA boys title with just 29 points behind a 1-2 finish by teammates Brodey Hasty and Taylor Vroon. Hasty, a junior, won his second straight title in 15:09.07, which set the course record previously set by Hardin Valley’s Aaron Templeton (15:10.57) in 2013.

Wilson Central was second with 132 points.

Ravenwood won the Class AAA girls meet with 77 points. Ravenwood’s Annika Sleenhof was second in 17:50.40.

Central Magnet won the A/AA girls title with 61 points.

The title came despite two-time defending state champion Taylor Cuneo finishing fifth (19:24.30). Cuneo has been bothered by injuries this season. Christian Academy of Knoxville’s Rebecca Story won the meet in 17:49.70.

Page finished runner-up by a point to Knoxville Catholic for the A/AA boys team title. Catholic won with 80 points.
