Bailey Nero finished her portion of competition at the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials on Wednesday with a strong race.
The Fossil Ridge High School graduate and sophomore at Auburn University finished 35th in the 200-meter butterfly, moving up from her seeding slot of 58th.
She swam a time of 2:15.06.
The race ends Nero’s second appearance in the trials, after also competing in 2012 prior to the London Olympics. Nero took 26th in the 100 butterfly earlier this week and was disqualified in the 400 IM.
Nero was the only local to race Wednesday.
Thursday will be a big day for Fort Collins-area swimmers. Fossil Ridge junior Zoe Bartel will compete in her third and final race, the 200 breaststroke. She has finished 24th in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM so far.
Fossil Ridge senior Bailey Kovac will race the 200 breaststroke, her only race of the trials. Windsor senior Morgan Friesen is also in the 200 breaststroke in her final event of the meet.
The top two racers from each race qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
The meet runs through Sunday.
