New Albany Little League gunning for third straight title

New Albany Little League used eight runs in the eighth inning to outlast New Castle 11-3 Tuesday afternoon in the semifinals of the state tournament at Chet Waggoner Little League in South Bend.

A two-time defending champion, New Albany will gun for a third straight state title Wednesday at 10 a.m. in a matchup with Terre Haute North. North topped Frankfort 20-8 in Tuesday’s first semifinal.

It’s the second time in six years New Albany has been matched up with Terre Haute North in the final. North topped New Albany 3-1 in the 2010 championship.

Knotted at 3-3 in extra innings, Jackson Folz tallied the go-ahead RBI single the put the team up for good. Tucker Biven, the winning pitcher, then drove in a pair of runs before a two-RBI single from James Gill made it 11-3. New Albany racked up 11 hits.
