In a matchup of two of Georgia’s best teams, No. 12 Mill Creek (Hoschton) withstood a furious comeback from Mountain View (Lawrenceville) to come away with a 35-23 victory.
With the win, Mill Creek remained unbeaten (9-0) while clinching a Region 6-AAAAAAA title in the process with a 5-0 mark.

A 41-yard touchdown run by Anthony Presto with 1:29 to play, followed by a Brenton King extra point, sealed the victory.
After jumping out to a 28-3 lead, the Hawks had to hang on down the stretch. Mountain View (7-2, 3-2 Region 6-AAAAAAA) cut the lead to just 28-23 with 8:05 left in the third quarter.
Mountain View quarterback Matthew Edwards threw three touchdown passes to spearhead the Bears’ comeback that fell just short.
After an early field goal by Mountain View, running back Joe Thomas took the ball into the end zone from the 1-yard line, and the extra point gave the Hawks the 7-3 lead with 5:51 to go in the first quarter.
Mill Creek quarterback Cameron Turley hit Jack Plummer for a touchdown, and it was 14-3 after the first quarter. After breaking the school record for career TD passes last week, Turley upped his total to 38.
Victor Heyward had a pick-six interception return for a touchdown that increased the Mill Creek lead to 21-3 with 11:09 left in the second quarter. Another pick-six, this one by Jonathan Gipson, looked like it all but put the game away in the second quarter. The Hawks led, 28-3, after the extra point.
Mountain View then scored 20 consecutive points, and it was a tense finish in Hoschton.
Mill Creek visits Duluth Nov. 4, while Mountain View hosts crosstown rival Discovery Oct. 28.
