No. 12 Mill Creek (Hoschton, Ga.) exploded out of the blocks in the second half with three quick touchdowns on its way to a 44-17 win over North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.)
The Hawks (6-0) entered the game having allowed just three points in the first half all season. But an 80-yard touchdown pass from Cade Fortin to Ricky Reed cut Mill Creek’s lead to 14-10 late in the first half.
The Hawks responded in the best way possible, marching down the field with Cameron Turley hitting Edmond Graham for a 29-yard TD strike to push the lead to 20-10 at the half.
The third quarter was all Mill Creek, which scored touchdowns on its first three possessions.
Senior running back Joe Thomas, who returned to action after missing a pair of games with nagging injuries, Cole Wroble (two TDs) and Ace Williams scored for the Hawks.
Mill Creek next plays Discovery (Lawrenceville, Ga.) on Oct. 7.
