In a near repeat of their state quarterfinal matchup of a season ago, No. 14 Mill Creek (Hoschton. Ga.) stymied Archer (Lawrenceville) 31-10 on Friday.

Last December, the Hawks took a 24-0 win and Mill Creek’s defense was key again on Friday, with a pick-six and several sacks. A late Archer touchdown was the first one on the ground the Hawks have allowed all season.

Mill Creek quarterback Cameron Turley had two 20-yard touchdown passes, the first to Ace Williams in the first quarter and the second to Edmond Graham in the second quarter.

Anthony Presto had back-to-back short runs, the second for a 3-yard touchdown, to put Mill Creek up 7-0. Archer cut into the lead with a 41-yard field goal.

Jack Plummer had a 43-yard punt return and the very next play, the Hawks went up 14-3 on Turley’s pass to Williams.

Defensive back Jonathan Gipson returned an interception for a touchdown to put Mill Creek up 21-3.

Brenton King connected on a 56-yard field goal to put Mill Creek up 24-3.

The Hawks (4-0) play next on Sept. 23 at Collins Hill (Suwanee). The Tigers (1-2) play Friday at Norcross.
