The Terry Gambill Era at Allen, Texas, is off to a 2-0 start.
Allen, ranked No. 13 in the Super 25, rolled to a 45-10 victory against visiting Evangel Christian (Shreveport, La.) on Friday night with help from five Evangel turnovers.
Gambill, a former Allen assistant, returned in the offseason to replace longtime coach Tom Westerberg.
While the score was tied at 3-3 with less than five minutes left in the first quarter, Allen would score 28 unanswered points to put the game out of reach.
Brock Sturges ran for 40 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns and Carson Shleker scored on a 42-yard reception from Mitchell Jonke and a 62-yard punt return. Jonke threw for 120 yards and a TD.
Kirby Bennett added a 1-yard run and backup QB Grant Tisdale connected on a 22-yard TD pass with Tevyn Stevenson.
Evangel’s lone TD was on a 3-yard run from Elijah Chatman late in the third quarter.
After opening with home victories against out-of-state foes, Allen visits Coppell (Texas) next week.
