Scouting reports for all the area prep football games in the Battle Creek Enquirer readership area for the first round of the playoffs:
Division 2: Lakeview (7-2) at G.R. Forest Hills Central (7-2), 7 p.m. Friday
Scouting Report: Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central is in the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and only the third time since 1999. The Rangers play in the competitive OK White Division in the Grand Rapids area. Forest Hills Central lost to a 5-4 Greenville team and an undefeated Lowell squad. Lakeview faced Lowell in the first round of the playoffs last year, losing to the Red Arrows before they eventually advanced to the state finals.
What happens next?: Winner would face the winner of Portage Northern (5-4) at Portage Central (8-1)
Division 3: Harper Creek (7-2) at Coldwater (7-2), 7 p.m. Friday
Scouting Report: This is a rematch of a regular season Interstate 8 Conference clash, won by Coldwater, 19-7, in Week 7. Two of the top backs in the conference will meet up with the Beavers’ Dawson Bartlett and Coldwater’s Sam DeMeester the leading rushers for each team. Coldwater has beaten Harper Creek three straight times as the Cardinals are looking to make a playoff run like it did last year when they advanced to the fourth round. Harper Creek is back in the playoffs after missing it last year.
What happens next?: Winner would face winner of Vicksburg (7-2) at Chelsea (9-0)
Division 4: Pennfield (5-4) at Lake Odessa Lakewood (8-1), 7 p.m. Friday
Scouting Report: Pennfield advanced to playoffs based on strength of schedule and computer points, making the postseason for the first time since 2013. Lake Odessa Lakewood won the Greater Lansing Athletic Conference, beating Olivet earlier in the year in what was a battle for first place at the time, 36-27. Pennfield beat Olivet to clinch a playoff spot, 22-19, in Week 9. Lakewood is in playoffs for only second time since 2002.
What happens next?: Winner would face winner of Williamston (5-4) at Sexton (6-3)
Division 5: Olivet (5-4) at Berrien Springs (6-2), 7 p.m. Friday
Scouting Report: Olivet is in the playoffs for the ninth straight season, qualifying at 5-4 based on strength of schedule and computer points. Olivet ended the year losing the last two games to playoff teams out of conference. Berrien Springs is in playoffs for third straight year after winning the final five games of the year. Berrien Springs beat Olivet in the first round of the playoffs last year.
What happens next?: Winner would face Buchanan (5-3) at Dowagiac (6-3)
Division 7: Dansville (6-3) at Homer (7-2), 7 p.m. Friday
Scouting Report: Homer won its final seven games in a row and shared the Big Eight title crown on its way to its fourth-straight playoff spot. Dansville is in the playoffs for the third straight year, but only has five actual wins on the field this season, with a sixth victory coming by way of forfeit to Potterville.
What happens next?: Winner would face Springport (7-2) at Concord (7-2).
Division 8: Colon (5-4) at Climax-Scotts (9-0), 7 p.m. Friday
Scouting Report: This is a rematch of a regular season league contest where Climax-Scotts defeated Colon, 58-3. C-S has beaten Colon nine straight times and has just finished back-to-back undefeated regular seasons. C-S advanced to the third round of the playoffs last year. Colon is in the playoffs for third straight season, but hasn’t made it out of first round since 2009.
What happens next?: Winner would face Mendon (7-2) at St. Joseph Lake Michigan Catholic (8-1).
