No. 22 Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.) has won its second state title in program history, defeating Boiling Springs (Spartanburg) 28-21 in 5A state championship game Saturday night at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C.

The Silver Foxes finish the season a perfect 15-0 and reached the state title game for the fourth time in five years.

It’s the ninth career title for coach Tom Knotts, who previously won titles in North Carolina at West Charlotte and Independence High.

Boiling Springs cut the lead to 28-21 when Mason Streater hit tight end Michael Bollinger for a 16-yard touchdown with 6:51 left in the game. On the next possession Dutch Fork drove to the 21 but a pair of penalties took them out of field goal range and forced a punt.

Boiling Springs took over at its own 12 with 2:13 remaining and needing a touchdown. After making some headway Boiling Springs came up just short off a first down and Dutch Fork took over on downs. Dutch Fork got a first down and sealed the victory.

Dutch Fork led 21-14 at halftime behind 234 yards passing and two touchdowns from Reese Nichols. Ron Hoff had a rushing and receiving score in the first half and Bobby Irby caught a TD.

Dutch Fork pushed the lead to 28-21 with 3:40 left in the third quarter when Hoff scored on a 5-yard run for his third of the game.
