It went the full 60, but De La Salle eventually worked its magic again.
Trailing for much of the game, the Spartans opted to go for two after pulling within 27-26 with 1:00 remaining. Running back Kairee Robinson pushed his way over the goal line on the left side, scoring the decisive points before a final Servite drive petered out on just four downs, completing De La Salle’s grand escape.
Robinson finished the victory with a pair of touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions, all of them at critical periods. He scored the Spartans’ first touchdown, added a touchdown and 2-point conversion to later cut into Servite’s advantage and then came through with the game on the line for the win.
For every yin that Robinson provided for De La Salle, Servite quarterback Tyler Lytle was his yang. Lytle scored a critical touchdown while also keeping the De La Salle defense honest by spreading the ball to multiple receivers, but especially Dominic Wingfield, who had 10 receptions and 117 yards through the air, and that was just after the first drive of the second half.
The Servite fight back was impressive, but not enough to counteract that patented De La Salle magic.
