No. 25 Liberty (Henderson, Nev.) held Basic to to minus-18 yards rushing and forced four turnovers in a 51-15 victory Thursday night to clinch the Southeast Division title.
Liberty led 23-15 at halftime, but Ethan Dedeaux scored on a 79-yard run and Darion Acohido returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown in the opening minutes of the third quarter for a 37-15 advantage.
Dedeaux had five catches for 127 yards, including a 65-yard TD reception. Acohido also scored on a 7-yard TD run in the second half.
Liberty quarterback Kenyon Oblad threw for 295 yards and two TDs.
And there was plenty of defense by Liberty (8-1).
“Our defense is good,” coach Rich Muraco told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “When we align and run our right assignments, they’re very talented and fast and physical. Pretty much all year against in-state teams, we’ve held them to two touchdowns or less. I’m proud of those guys.”
