No. 3 Mater Dei routs rival Servite 58-16

Traditional Southern California power Mater Dei is having a banner year, even by its standards. One loss to rival Anaheim Servite would unravel all of that. Luckily for the Monarchs, that’s not a concern anymore.

Mater Dei racked up another one-sided rout on Friday night, 58-16, to maintain its assault on the top of the national rankings. Sitting at No. 3 in the USA TODAY Super 25, Young quarterback J.T. Daniels and the St. Brown brothers continue to pose a set of almost indefensible offensive options. This week, Osiris St. Brown racked up a pair of touchdowns while brother Amon Ra added one, three scores which would have been enough on their own to lift the Monarchs on top of Servite.

As it was, Servite did make things interesting in the second quarter. After spotting Mater Dei a 21-0 lead, Servite cut the lead to both 21-7 and 28-14. Yet that was as close as the Anaheim school would come, with Horace “Bru” McCoy also proving  persistent menace for the Monarchs.

With a special setting at Angels Stadium for the heated Southern California rivalry grudge match, Mater Dei will look to keep the momentum and close out the regular season at 10-0 when it travels to Junipero Serra Catholic next Friday. Could a national title still be in the works in the future after that? At this point, nothing is off the cards.
