Florida commit Jake Allen threw three first-half touchdown passes to lead No. 8 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) to a 37-0 defeat of Dwyer (Palm Beach Gardens) in a Class 7A regional semifinal on Friday.
Aquinas took a 7-0 lead a little more than a minute into the game on its second possession as Allen combined with Kyshaun Bryan for a 33-yard touchdown pass.
Raiders kicker Marco Salani made it 10-0 with a 34-yard field goal early in the second quarter. Later in the quarter, Allen connected with Mike Harley for a 33-yard touchdown pass. A few minutes later, Salani kicked a 41-yard field goal and Aquinas led 20-0.
Just before the half, Allen connected with Joshua Palmer on a 3-yard touchdown pass and the rout was on.
In the second half, Rockey Shelton scored on a 10-yard fumble return and Salani had his third field goal, a 28-yarder.
There was a brawl on the field between the teams at the end of the game.
The Raiders (9-2) will play at Mater Academy (Hialeah Gardens) next Friday in the 7A quarterfinals.
It is unknown at this point if the brawl could lead to suspensions for next week’s game. Aquinas coach Roger Harriott said he was confident that no players would be suspended.
The loss ends the season for Dwyer (10-1). It was the second season in a row that Aquinas ended the Panthers’ season as the Raiders defeated Dwyer 24-7 in the regional semifinals last season.
