Everyone knows that Florida is chock full of top football prospects. There’s more than enough to go around for all the major programs in the state, but it’s always assumed that the best talent will stay home, just as it is expected that Texans will stay in the Lone State State and Californians will play in California.
At least one top Florida prospect is headed away from home after four-star running back prospect Adarius Lemons announced his commitment to North Carolina. The new Tar Heels pledge was reported by multiple sources Thursday evening, with new North Carolina assistant coach Chad Scott receiving credit for luring Lemons to his future home.
The Clearwater High back instantly becomes the most high profile recruit in North Carolina’s Class of 2017. Considered one of the 15-best running back prospects and 30-best overall recruits in Florida, Lemons will be expected to serve as the offensive anchor for the Tar Heels’ incoming class. He rushed for 1,054 yards and 11 touchdowns in his junior season, adding another touchdown through the air.
Rivals.com analyst Mike Farrell was among the experts to quickly underscore just how big Lemons’ pledge was to North Carolina’s fortunes.
Now the question becomes what the Tar Heels can do to build on momentum from Lemons’ decision.
