On their first try in overtime, North Harrison (5-2, 3-2) went to the air as Wetzel found Jake Troxell in the right corner of the end zone. Ben Waynescott added the extra point as the Cougars surprised Silver Creek. After shaking hands, the Cougars sprinted to their team bus and prepared for the drive to Ramsey.
In a defensive first, half, he only score of the first half came on a 13-yard keeper by Wetzel, as he took the snap and darted to the right side of the field.
Wetzel found clear sailing on that right side and went untouched into the end zone with 8:07 left in the second quarter.
The North Harrison touchdown was set up by a 43-yard run by Josh Kemp, who rambled to the Silver Creek 29.
Even in the face of two lost fumbles by North Harrison’s Wetzel in the first half, the Dragons couldn’t get much going on offense and couldn’t take advantage of those miscues by the Cougars.
“I was really nervous early in the game,” said Wetzel, who also plays basketball and baseball for North Harrison.
In the third quarter, the Dragons came out firing and needed 1:27 to score as Jake Reas scored on a 13-yard run.
