Josh Norville, who ranks first in the triple jump in Class 3A and 11th in the nation, is hoping to win a state title.

Lehigh’s Josh Norville has reached 47 feet again.

The senior triple jumper, who leads Class 3A with a season best mark of 47-6.5, nailed his fourth attempt on Friday at the University of Florida’s Pepsi Relays.

Norville hit a mark of 47-4.50, just a quarter inch away from tying the event’s winner, Gainesville’s Tariq Evans, who won in a leap of 47-4.75.

Norville then charged ahead for his second straight mark at 47 feet, finishing his next attempt at 47-3.75. Over six attempts, Norville two jumps over 46 feet and one over 45 feet.

In the 400-meter relay, South Fort Myers’ boys team qualified for Saturday’s finals with a third-place effort in the preliminaries. The Wolfpack’s team of E’Quan Dorris, Antonio Wimbush, William Scott and Willie Johnson secured a time of 41.90.

On Thursday, Southwest Florida performed strong in the pole vault, netting three place-winners. Ida Baker’s Jordan Diggs tied for third with a mark of 14-0, his brother, Drayton, was sixth with a mark of 14-0 — on a later attempt — and South Fort Myers’ Thomas Barselous was eighth in 13-6.

Ida Baker’s Kaya Aydogmus placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 52-4.25.

Notable Southwest Florida athletes competing in the 8:00 p.m. INVITE 1,600-meter run include Estero’s Megan Giovanniello in the girls’ event,

and Estero’s Arye Beck in the boys’ event.
