The Opening’s combine testing phase is through, and we have a winner.
J.K. Dobbins, an Ohio State running back commit from La Grange, Texas, was named the Nike Football Rating champion by compiling a final mark of 146.76. He ran a 4.45 40-yard dash with a 4.09 shuttle, a 42-inch power ball toss and 43-1 inch vertical, per a report from 247 Sports. The country’s top safety prospect, Jeffrey Okudah, was the runner up with a total score of 142.56 backed by a 4.49 40-yard dash. Okudah is a rising senior at South Grand Prairie in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex.
Fittingly, Dobbins was handed the ratings championship trophy by a former Buckeyes running back, recent Cowboys draftee Ezekiel Elliot.
The Buckeyes are confident that Dobbins will follow through on his commitment and don an Ohio State uniform for the 2017 season. They also have a strong shot at both Okudah and Akers, meaning that Urban Meyer’s recruiting class could include the number 1-3 rated overall football athletes in the Class of 2017. Akers in particular turned heads Thursday when he arrived at The Opening wearing an Ohio State hat.
No matter who ends up joining Dobbins in Columbus, the Buckeye fans can rest assured they’re recruiting one of the most athletic signing classes in recent memory, starting right at the top with Dobbins.
