The Opening produced the expected rankings shakeup in the Top 247 recruiting rankings from 247 Sports, with four new 5-star recruits and a new No. 1 overall prospect emerging from the process. Yet both of those tidbits take a back seat to one of those four new 5-stars himself: Walker Little, a Houston-area OT whose ranking jumped 56 positions to No. 2 overall.
Little sits behind only No. 1 prospect Foster Sarrell, who he worked out with at The Opening across the weekend. Sarrell, the anchor of the Graham Kapowsin line, jumped five positions in the rankings to reach the top spot, as revealed by 247 Sports on Wednesday night.
The other three new 5-star prospects are Alabama commit Alex Leatherwood, another offensive tackle from Pensacola, Fla.; safety Richard LeCounte III, a Georgia commit from Georgia; and Stanford tight end commit Colby Parkinson, who hails from California.
For Sarrell, the top spot is the culmination of a rather remarkable rise up the rankings, with now-former No. 1 overall prospects Najee Harris (an Alabama running back commit) and IMG Academy linebacker Dylan Moses falling to No. 3 and 4 in the rankings, respectively. Like the two offensive linemen suddenly in front of them, they both earn a 99 overall ranking, meaning that they’re not out of the mix for the top spot yet.
As for Sarrell, 247 Sports analyst Barton Simmons made clear that he had the best shot of any of the top-ranked prospect to this point of holding on to the position.
“We saw (Sarrell) in person at 6-foot-6.5, 305 pounds, and was dominant,” Simmons said in a 247 Sports video analysis on the rankings shakeup. “He was the bell cow of the best offensive line group we’ve seen out there, and we were blown away.”
