Big week for area prep sports
District championships, regional playoffs and state tournament play is all part of the busiest week of the season for high school spring sports in the area.
In tennis, Pensacola High boys and girls and Catholic boys are in separate classifications at the state tournament that begins Monday near Orlando.
In lacrosse, Gulf Breeze High will host its first-ever state regional lacrosse playoffs with back-to-back games Friday night.
The Dolphins girls team will face Gainesville-Oak Hall at 5 p.m. at Dolphin Stadium. The Gulf Breeze boys will follow with a 7 p.m. game against Tallahassee-Maclay. The schedules and pairings were finalized Saturday by the FHSAA.
In softball, this week is district tournaments for all classifications. The same is true for boys and girls track and field.
The following week, baseball districts will be staged.
