Yvette Burcescu (5) from Walter Panas shows determination in the match against Burnt Hills in the Class A State Volleyball Finals at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Sunday November 22, 2015.

Walter Panas’ Yvette Burcescu (5) gets a shot by Yotrktown’s Toni Fiore (15) and Taryn Frawley (11) during the Section 1 Class A playoff championship volleyball game at Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose Nov 6, 2015.
Panas sophomore outside hitter Yvette Burcescu was named to the MaxPreps Underclass All-American Team on Wednesday, the site announced.
Burcescu was one of only three New Yorkers to garner recognition among the honorees, which includes freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. The announcement does not come as a surprise for Burcescu, who was named to the preseason All-American Watch List by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
During her stellar sophomore year, which earned her Journal News Westchester/Putnam player of the year honors, Burcescu broke Panas’ single-season kills record — a record previously held by each of her sisters, Vivian and Brigitte, respectively. Panas posted a 17-2 overall record, winning sectional and regional titles before falling in the Class A state final.
The Panthers won three regular-season weekend tournaments (Yorktown, Clarkstown South, Panas) this year, and are slated to be a powerhouse out of Section 1 at least until the graduation of Panas’ three all-section sophomores — Burcescu, Sabrina Patriciello, and Lauren Feeley.
