Cherokee senior Kennan Panther has committed to play college football for Carson-Newman (Tenn.).
Panther was an All-Smoky Mountain Conference linebacker for the Braves the past two years. He made 158 tackles last fall, along with two fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown) and one interception.
“Kennan has been a great leader for us the past three years and a team captain the past two,” Cherokee coach Kent Briggs said.
“He is one of the best hitters I’ve ever been around. They are going to start him off at linebacker (at Carson-Newman), but I think he can be a really good fullback, too. He has really worked his tail off to make this opportunity come true. I know the tradition that Carson-Newman has and their coaching staff were very important to Kennan.”
