Iona Prep’s Patrick Fleming and Briarcliff’s Jack Reish were among the 11 players selected to the academic all-state team by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York.
Fleming, a 6-foot-4 senior, was a first-team Journal News all-star after earning all-league honors from the CHSAA. The Assumption-bound guard led the Gaels in scoring at 16.0 points per game. He was the only double-digit scorer on the team after senior Ty Jerome went down to injury in December.
Reish, a 5-foot-11 junior, was named all-section and was an honorable mention Journal News all-star after guiding the Bears to a 23-2 record and a Section 1 Class B title. He led Briarcliff in scoring (14.6) and assists (2.6) and steals per game (2.0) and was second in rebounding (5.6).
In order to qualify for the BCANY’s honor, a player had to carry an average of 90 or better and have earned first or second-team all-star honors from its league, section or local media.
