A Peach County (Fort Valley, Ga.) High football player died Saturday after losing control of his SUV.
The Peach County coroner said it appears Raekwon Smith, 18, lost control of the car in a curve, and it overturned. He was pronounced dead shortly after the accident.
There were three other football players in the car at the time, though they are expected to survive. According to the Peach County football Facebook page, one of the teens remains in critical condition.
According to the Macon (Ga.) Telegraph, police say drugs and alcohol aren’t suspected to be identified as factors. Smith, also, was wearing a seat belt.
“He was just a good kid,” Peach County head coach Chad Campbell told the paper. “He wasn’t a starter or anything like that, but just a good kid. A quiet kid, very mannerable kid. All the kids liked him. He did anything you asked him to do.”
Smith and his teammates had just left a pool party celebrating the start of the season when the accident occurred. The Peach County community and neighboring communities were asked to wear white Monday in Smith’s honor.
