Brian Kuczma gave his team a day off on Friday.
The breather made a world of difference Saturday, when his Wappingers boys lacrosse team squared off with visiting Ossining at Roy C. Ketcham High School. The Warriors pulled out a 13-0 win, stopping a two-game losing streak.
“It was nice to see them play with fresh legs,” Kuczma said. “I think the day of rest helped out. They came to play.”
Wappingers now has the challenge of facing Lakeland/Walter Panas at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Shrub Oak.
“(Lakeland/Walter Panas) is disciplined on offense. They’re rebounding off a subpar year and they’re focused on being better than last year and living up to the Lakeland/Panas lore that’s been,” Kuczma said. “I expect a team that’s ready to play.”

Wappingers was more than ready to face Ossining. James Pratt, Jack Decker and Travis Ventura each notched a hat trick. Pratt added three assists while Decker had one.
Jake Shaw pitched in with two goals and two assists. Chris Lema and Tom Dubowski each scored once.
Goalie Emad Jamal made six saves, and Kuczma praised the play of his defense which held the Pride scoreless.
“Collectively as a defense we’ve done a good job,” the coach said. “We wanted to get back to communicating and taking away angles so our goalie could make easier saves.”
