April is finally here, and that means Pirates baseball is just around the corner! The Pirates kick off their 2016 season on Sunday, April 3rd against their division rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park. The first pitch will be thrown at 1:05, with the ceremonial first pitch being thrown by Pitt Panther running back James Conner, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The Pirates come into this season with high expectations of contending for the NL Central division title after finishing with a 98-64 record last year, and only finishing two games out of first place.
Many kids here at CV are avid baseball fans, and could not be more excited that cheers of “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” will commence once again.
“I’m pretty excited for opening day,” said junior Sean McCrerey. “I love baseball, and it’s one of my favorite times of the year; I think the Pirates are going to do really good, and I can’t wait to be there and cheer them on.”
“I’m not that big on baseball, but I love Opening Day,” said junior Jordan Mokricky. “I love the sense it gives that Summer is right around the corner, and we can all bask in the wonder of Summer.”
“Man, Buccos are back,” said sophomore Donovan Kinnee. “I’m going to the game and I’m hoping to see a win.”
PNC Park is expected to be jam packed and full of enthusiasm. If you can’t get to the ballpark, stay in or go to a local restaurant that will be showing the game, and watch some Bucco Baseball!
