The Battle Creek Enquirer Prep Gameday Scouting Reports for the city basketball game, plus the E-10 rankings for boys and girls basketball:
Next: vs. Loy Norrix, Today; vs. Lakeview, Tuesday
Scouting Report: By winning eight of its last nine games, Battle Creek Central has matched its win total from last year. The Bearcats have two games in the regular season to better last year’s mark. BCC will host a Loy Norrix (11-7) team it beat by one earlier in the year and then finish the season vs. city rival Lakeview (6-11).
Harper Creek (11-7)
Next: vs. Marshall, Today; vs. Sturgis, Tuesday
Scouting Report: Harper Creek has won three games in a row, all in the Interstate 8 to clinch second place in the league. The Beavers can’t catch league-leading Marshall, but will get a chance to end the Redhawks 15-game winning streak with a game at home.
Next: at Gull Lake, Today; vs. BC Central, Tuesday
Scouting Report: After going 2-8 in the first half of the season, Lakeview is looking to have a winning record in the second half as the Spartans are currently 4-3 in their last seven with three games remaining. Lakeview gets a struggling Gull Lake team next, which comes in at 1-15.
Next: at Lumen Christi, Today; vs. Parchment, Tuesday
Scouting Report: Pennfield has won five straight games, and has climbed to third place in the Interstate 8 Conference after being in the bottom half of the league just after midseason. Pennfield has a chance to win out to end the regular season, facing only one team with a winning record in the last three contests in Three Rivers.
St. Philip (7-11)
Next: vs. Bellevue at The Palace, Saturday; at Pittsford, March 3
Scouting Report: St. Philip had its game against Bellevue, scheduled to be played Wednesday at The Palace of Auburn Hills, prior to a Detroit Pistons game, called off due to weather. The game will now be played 8 a.m. Saturday at The Palace. The Pistons are not playing that day, so there won’t be a high school/NBA doubleheader as orginally planned.
Next: vs. Loy Norrix, Today; vs. Parma Western/Loy Norrix, March 2 (districts)
Scouting Report: BCC is improving at the right time, with recent wins over Benton Harbor and Portage Central. Bearcats see rival Loy Norrix to end regular season and could get the Knights again in the districts.
Harper Creek (15-4)
Next: vs. Marshall, Today; vs. Pennfield, Monday (districts)
Scouting Report: Harper Creek ends the regular season against rival Marshall, looking to hand the Redhawks their only Interstate 8 Conference loss of the season. Beavers will then face Pennfield to open district play next week.
Next: at Gull Lake, Today; vs. Sturgis/Gull Lake winner, March 2 (districts)
Scouting Report: Lakeview might be seeing Gull Lake twice in a row in the next week as it ends the regular season against the 10-7 Blue Devils and could face them in the districts.
Next: at Lumen Christi, Today; vs. Harper Creek, Monday (districts)
Scouting Report: Pennfield ends the regular season with a Lumen Christi team the Panthers beat earlier in the season. Pennfield will get city and league rival Harper Creek to open the districts next week.
St. Philip (14-5)
Next: vs. Bellevue, Today; vs. Calhoun Christian, March 2 (districts)
Scouting Report: St. Philip fell short in its attempt to win the league title after losing to Climax-Scotts last week. Tigers bounced back with a win against Centreville and face a Bellevue team next that has set its school record for wins in a season.
