The fifth Blue Water Junior Golf Tour event of the summer hit close to home for local golfers.

With the competition at Port Huron Golf Club on Friday, Port Huron Northern rising junior Megan Randolph had the chance to defend her home course.

Well, she defended it all right, leading the girls 14-and-up A Flight with an 83 for her second win in as many events this summer.

“I know all the parts of it and I like playing it,” Randolph said. “It’s one of the toughest courses in the area, but I know it like the back of my hand.”

Yale’s Emma Kerr came in second in the A Flight, locking up her second top three finish this summer.

No one’s score popped out more than Sterling Heights’ Justin McCown’s 73 to lead the 16-and-over boys division. While picking up his first win of the summer is nice, McCown enjoyed the competitive-yet-relaxed atmosphere around the course.

“It’s just a lot of fun playing with these guys,” McCown said. “We have a lot of fun out here, I’ve known these guys since I’ve been 8 or 9.”

Applegate’s Matt Benson earned second with his 82 in his first BWJGT event of the summer.

“I think I played good, but I could have played better,” Benson said. “My putting was good, especially on the back nine. I had a lot more one putts than I normally have.”

Yale’s Justin Furhman placed third in the 16-and-over division, golfing his best round with an 84. Not bad for a golfer who’s never played at PHGC.

“I got a new putter this year and I’ve never putted better,” Furhman said. “I’ve also been getting a lot of up-and-down pars.”

Clyde’s Andrew Fealko won the 14-15 nine hole flight with a 48, followed closely by Fort Gratiot’s Nathan VanBuskirk and his 51.
