Rashaan Salaam's alma mater has moment of silence before playoff game

By

Former Heisman Trophy winner Rashaan Salaam was a star high school player at La Jolla Country Day in San Diego and was inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame.

Salaam, 42, was found dead in a parking lot in Boulder, Colo., on Monday night, not far from where he starred as a running back from 1992-94 for the University of Colorado. Salaam’s mother, Khalada, told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday that Boulder police suspect he took his own life and that a note was found indicating as much.

Salaam’s alma mater, La Jolla Country Day, played Arroyo (El Monte) on Saturday night in the CIF playoffs and the school honored Salaam with a moment of silence before the game.
