Friday the 13th turned out to be an unlucky omen for Dickson County, which was looking extract revenge on Ravenwood after the Lady Raptors handed the Lady Cougars their first District loss in more than 50 games.
Instead, Ravenwood had a repeat performance of the day before and was able to pull off a 11-AAA Tournament title, winning 3-0 Friday at Ravenwood.
It was once again All-District freshman Sydney Hughes who provided the Lady Raptors with a spark of offense. She tripled and later scored on senior Drew Dudley’s two-run homer.
“Every time (Ravenwood) needed a hit, they got it,” said Dickson County coach Shane Buchanan.
“Every we hit the ball hard, they caught the ball and it went right to them. Their pitcher (Abbey Irwin) stayed on the inside and kept us off balance. They did everything they had to do to win the game.”
Brooklin Lee took the loss for the Lady Cougars. She pitched a complete game and struck out seven. It was her third game in a row in the circle.
“We’ve got one of the best pitchers in the state, maybe the best pitcher in the state. It’d be kind of foolish of me to have her on third base,” Buchanan said.
Ravenwood will play host while Dickson County will be the on the road in the Region 6-AAA semifinals Monday against the 12-AAA finalists. The chance to go on the road and bounce back is a challenge Buchanan believes his team will embrace.
“We got a little gut check, and we’ll see what we’ve got.If it’s in the cards and we want it bad enough, we’ll figure out a way to get it.”
