FRANKLIN — Ravenwood’s soccer team watched as Franklin celebrated the District 11-AAA tournament title on the Raptors’ home turf last week.
Ravenwood returned the favor at Franklin on Thursday, coming from behind to beat the Rebels 2-1 to claim the Region 6-AAA title.
The Raptors, who had tied and lost to Franklin in the two teams’ previous two matches this season, will host Hendersonville on Saturday in the Class AAA sectional, while Franklin will travel to play Station Camp. Both games are at 7 p.m.
The winners of those games advance to the state tournament next week in Murfreesboro. The losers will end their season.
“I can’t tell you how good this one feels,” Ravenwood senior Jake Hill said. “This is my last time playing them. It just felt so good coming out and beating them on their field.”
Franklin jumped ahead 1-0 early when senior Will Campbell used an assist from Christopher Miller-Hill to find the back of the net in the 17th minute.
The Rebels maintained the lead through the first half, but Ravenwood evened the score on a header from Hill 12 minutes into the second half.
Unlike Franklin, which waited until the last two minutes to score the game-winner against the Raptors in the district title game, Ravenwood didn’t wait long to score the final goal.
Hill finished off an assist from Dalton Bickel with another header just six minutes later to put the Raptors in front for good.
“I think we played better tonight than we did in the district championship,” Franklin coach Mike Burgoyne said. “We just were on the wrong side of the result.”
