A few notes to pass along today:
>> Columbia City forward Brachen Hazen, a 6-8 senior, has been granted his release from Central Florida and will reopen his recruitment.
Hazen signed with Central Florida in November, but coach Donnie Jones was fired in March after a 12-18 season. Jones coached at Central Florida for six seasons.
Hazen, an Indiana Junior All-Star last season, also had offers from Ball State, Clemson, Creighton, Maryland, Richmond and Valparaiso, among others, before committing to Central Florida.
Hazen averaged 16.1 points and 9.3 rebounds as a senior at Columbia City. His brother, junior Parker Hazen, also is considered a Division I prospect.
>> Carmel wide receiver Jalen Walker committed to Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon, according to coach John Hebert.
Walker, a 5-8, 165-pound junior, also had offers from Central Michigan, Cornell and Harvard. He was offered by Cincinnati in March.
Walker also is a standout hurdler on the Carmel track team.
>> La Lumiere, a prep school located in LaPorte, lost in the basketball championship of the Dick’s High School Nationals on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Oak Hill Academy defeated La Lumiere 62-60 on a tip-in by Khadim Sy at the buzzer.
Isaiah Coleman-Lands, a junior guard and Indianapolis native, had 13 points for La Lumiere.
