Prospect of the Week
Warren (Ohio) Harding’s Lynn Bowden rushed for 370 yards and six touchdowns along with 139 more passing yards in a regional championship victory over previously undefeated Chardon team. That prompted Chardon head coach Mitch Hewitt to call him the most dominating player the school has ever played against. Bowden, who is considering a few schools still, including Michigan State and Kentucky, has done this all season and his play has moved him from the nation’s No. 154 player to No. 60 and the No. 10 ATH to No. 4. It is not impossible for him to challenge for five-star status.
Visit of the Week
Michigan has several official visitors coming in for their game against Indiana, but none more touted than five-star running back Cam Akers. Michigan, right now, is not considered a primary contender for the Clinton (Miss.) native, but the Wolverines have done a good job climbing with official visitors this season. Akers, a special prospect, is considering Ole Miss, LSU, Florida State, Tennessee, Ohio State and Georgia among others.
Prospect on the Rise
Detroit Cass Tech’s Donovan Johnson has been electrifying this season. His 13 carries for 287 yards and four touchdowns help lift his team to a hard-fought 43-42 victory over Saline in the regional final last Friday. Johnson has been doing this all season on offense despite being recruited as a cornerback. Still considering Penn State and Virginia Tech as his top two, talk persists that new schools may potentially jump in and offer him. Look for Johnson to jump in the rankings post-season.
Underclassman of the Week
Gibraltar (Mich.) Carlson 2018 athlete Jaylan Franklin just added an offer from Northwestern. Franklin is a versatile 6-foot-5 prospect who has played quarterback, but can project to receiver or a couple of spots on defense. The Wildcats join Kentucky, Minnesota and others on his offer list.
Commit of the Week
The Michigan Wolverines secured a commitment from safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell, a four-star prospect who will play the VIPER role Jabrill Peppers is at. Kelly-Powell is a smart, hard-working prospect who has played all over the field for Cass. He can be asked to play man to man in certain situations, but can also play in the deep part of the secondary or in the box. His versatility is what makes him a good fit for that role.
