This may seem like an archaic concept, but sportsmanship is an important part of a college coach’s evaluation of a potential recruit. College coaches watch how an athlete acts from the time they get off the bus until they get back on the bus after the game. If you are the type of player that enjoys taunting or mouthing off, you will most likely not be the type of player that a college coach would want on his or her team.
While helping the other team off of the ground may not be as glorious as your perfect touchdown dance, college coaches will appreciate sportsmanship much more than they will your excessive celebration penalty. College coaches certainly want good players, but they also want good teammates, good students and good citizens.
