There are two ways to view a Thursday report from Cleveland Fox affiliate WJW: 1) Ohioans really love high school football, or 2) Ohioans are truly fed up with the Cleveland Browns losing football games.
According to WJW, tickets for the Browns’ final preseason game on Thursday night are being priced as low as $6-7 on the aftermarket. Meanwhile, a number of Ohio high school games are selling tickets for more than the $7. Among the Cleveland-area games cited by WJW:
Saint Ignatius vs. Mentor: $9.
Stow vs. Kent Roosevelt: $6.
Tallmadge vs. Akron Ellet: $9
Of those three games, the Saint Ignatius v. Mentor contest pits two traditional state powers against each other. The other two games feature teams with regional and national profiles that are significantly lower, relatively speaking.
All of that makes the split between Browns interest and the commitment to high school football all the more notable.
