Report: Former Bellarmine star joins IU basketball staff as graduate assistant

By

Jake Thelen, a former All-American forward for the Bellarmine Knights basketball team, is reportedly heading to join the defending Big Ten champions this fall.

St. Xavier head coach Kevin Klein announced on Thursday evening in a pair of tweets that Thelen would be joining the Indiana University men’s basketball program as a graduate assistant for the upcoming season. Thelen spent this past season on the St. X basketball team coaching staff.

IU’s basketball team spokesperson could not confirm whether Thelen was joining the staff, noting the team’s policy is to announce staff changes later in the summer.

Thelen starred for the Knights during his three seasons at Bellarmine, and he was named an All-American and the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year during his senior season in 2014-2015. Thelen led the Knights with 18.6 points per game, 10.7 rebounds, and he show a team-high 66.7 percent from the field.
