The two local high school basketball teams still alive in postseason play received strong state tournament seeds.
On the boys side of Class 2A, undefeated Resurrection Christian (23-0) is the No. 2 seed in the eight-team state tournament. The Cougars will face No. 7 Rye (21-3) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals. The winner advances to face the winner of No. 3 Sedgwick County and No. 6 Paonia in Friday’s semifinals..
The 2A tournament is played at CSU-Pueblo, with quarterfinals Thursday, semifinals Friday and the title game Saturday. RCS is the state runner-up after losing to Sanford in the title game last year. Sanford is the No. 1 seed and back-to-back champion.

On the girls side of 1A, Heritage Christian (22-1) is the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Briggsdale (21-3) in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. The winner advances to face the winner of No. 2 Sangre de Cristo and No. 7 Genoa-Hugo in Friday’s semis.
Thursday’s game is the third time this season Heritage Christian and Briggsdale have played, each has won once so far. The Eagles beat Briggsdale Feb. 25 in district play.
The 1A state tournament is at the Budweiser Events Center, with quarterfinals Thursday, semis Friday and the title game Saturday.
