Roadrunners will play East LA in Patriotic Bowl

College of the Desert needed overtime to beat Victory Valley College on Saturday, but the win propelled the Roadrunners to their first bowl appearance in five years. That postseason game, dubbed the Patriotic Bowl, will be played at home on Saturday against East Los Angeles College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Last Saturday’s win not only gave the Roadrunners a bonus game, it provided COD a share of the Mountain American Conference for the second consecutive year. The Roadrunners finished in a three-way tie a year ago, but were left out of a bowl game.

Now that the Roadrunners are back in the postseason, the next task will be ending a 22-year drought. That’s how long it has been since COD won a bowl game. The last time it happened, in 1994, COD defeated El Camino, 59-48.

College of the Desert will have a chance to end that two-decade drought against an East Los Angeles team that COD defeated, 21-20, on the road in 2015.

But the Huskies are currently riding a seven game winning streak and will provide a tough test for the COD defense. In their most recent win, quarterback Jonathan Santos went to the air 19 times, completing 10 passes for 200 yards and five touchdowns. The Huskies also ran the ball for 205 yards and a score.

Tickets to the game will be $12 at the entrance.
