Roberson seniors Mary-O Soule (North Carolina) and Mitchell Stanek (Davidson) signed with college swimming programs on Thursday.
Soule is a former NCHSAA 4-A champion in the 100-yard butterfly. She chose to focus exclusively on club swimming midway through last winter’s high school season. At the time, Soule had the area’s best performances in four individual events — the 100-yard butterfly (58.03 seconds), 200-yard freestyle (1:55.00), 200-yard individual medley (2:10.76) and 500-yard freestyle (5:13.71).
As a junior, Stanek was an All-Mountain Athletic Conference and Citizen-Times All-WNC selection who swam the area’s fastest times in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.21) and 200-yard individual medley (1:56.74). He was the runner-up in the Ironman competition.
