Jo Byrns runs over Clay County, while East Robertson gets blanked by Forrest
Jo Byrns 43, Clay County 0
The Red Devils appeared to put all their troubles so far this season behind them and sent their seniors off the right way with a 43-0 victory over Clay County on senior night.
Senior Sammy Earheart got Jo Byrns on the board, scoring the first two touchdowns, from seven and 10 yards out.
Senior Mikey Chennault added one of two two-point conversions while Blake Shadrick had the other to go up 16-0 in the first quarter.
Chennault got in on the action in the second quarter, going 88 yards for the touchdown off a trap play. Jacob Barnhart added the next from five yards out to make it 30-0.
The Red Devils scored their final touchdown of the first half on the ensuing kickoff when Bailey Bowen scooped up the fumble and went 40 yards for the score. The team’s final score came on Jo Byrns’ first possession of the second half, when Wyatt Green hit Jacob Caira for a 44-yard touchdown.
The Red Devils will have to travel three hours to get to Pickett County for a 7 p.m. kickoff this Friday.
Forrest 35, East Robertson 0
The East Robertson football team was able to learn a few lessons after taking on first place-ranked Forrest Friday night.
“We made three big mistakes tonight that costs us 21 points, and you just can’t do that against a team like Forrest,” East Robertson coach Chad Broadrick said. “Now we just have to put this one behind us and continue to improve because it doesn’t get any easier from here.”
This Friday, the Indians will travel to Watertown. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
