Jeffrey Peters of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School shot a 1-over-par 72 on the 18-hole course to win the Mid-Hudson Athletic League individual golf championship on Thursday at Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland.
Peters had 13 pars and two birdies.
“It’s a testament to Jeffrey and the work he’s put in over the years, finishing on top in his senior year,” Presidents coach Kevin Hart said. “He’s always been consistent, but his short game has improved a lot and it’s taken some strokes off his score.”
Peters edged Spackenkill’s Erik Stauderman, who shot a 73. Stauderman had won the previous two MHAL titles.
“Eric and Jeffrey have been battling back and forth for a couple years,” Hart said. “They’re both extremely talented and competitive.”
The top 20 finishers earned a berth in the Section 9 tournament in May.
Local qualifiers include Red Hook’s Austin Lunstedt and Tyler Schaad (Millbrook), who each carded an 80 and tied for fourth. Ryan Ackert, Zachary Cioffi and Ryan Lo of Spackenkill; Webutuck’s Ahmatik Jones; Will Conti and Charles Benfer of Marlboro; Nick Puleo and Jaxson Koebel-Secky of New Paltz; Mitchell Wiemer and Pat Kyle of Millbrook.
