UNION CITY –The Division 2 honorable mention Coldwater baseball team began its 2016 campaign Tuesday night with a non-conference road trip to Union City.
Four different Cardinals took the mound as Coldwater earned a 9-4 victory over the Chargers. Cameron Barnes picked up the victory after three innings of relief work.
At the plate for Coldwater, Nick Shaw was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI; Kameron Miller was 2-for-3 with an RBI double; Brendan Spangler was 2-for-2 with an RBI; Bryce Barringer had two hits and Collin Torrey doubled.
Union City’s Cody Link had a hit and two RBIs and Elijah Way had a hit with an RBI and two runs scored.
VICKSBURG 3, (AT) MARSHALL 2: Marshall’s Mason Griffith pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts in the loss to Division 2 fourth-ranked Vicksburg. Drew DeVine had two hits for the Redhawks.
VICKSBURG 10-16, (AT) MARSHALL 1-0: Lindsay Gardner had two hits while Kaylie Bates had a single, a triple and an RBI in the doubleheader losses for Marshall.
COLON 6-8, (AT) ATHENS 0-12: Madison Miller earned the Game 1 victory for Colon with 16 strikeouts while allowing no runs on four hits. Offensively for the Magi in the doubleheader split, Miller doubled, Megan Warn had four hits including a double, and Marissa Taylor had three hits with a double. For Athens, Jillayne Wheeler had three singles and a double, while Noelle Fuller and Skyla Reynolds had four hits apiece.
(AT) QUINCY 10, MARSHALL ACADEMY 0: Mackenzie Moore scored three goals while Cailyn Hines and Hannah Kaser had two goals apiece for Quincy. Also scoring for the Orioles were Haley Bean, Ally Parrish and Julia Hildebrand.
(AT) COLDWATER 1, THREE RIVERS 1 (MON): Malorie Rzepka scored on an assist from Madison Marsh in the season opener for Coldwater. Nadia Kiersey finished with 10 saves.
(AT) OLIVET 4, LAKEWOOD 3 (MON.): Kaylee Richardson scored three goals, including the game-winner in the victory for Olivet. Amber Foster also scored for the Eagles (2-0, 1-0 GLAC).
OTSEGO 5, HARPER CREEK 0 (MON.): Kelly Neuman made 12 saves as the Beavers fell to 1-1 on the season.

DELTON KELLOGG 82, PAW PAW 55 (MON.): Posting first-place finishes for Delton Kellogg were Zeb Culbert (high jump, 5-8; 200-meters, 24.30), Malcolm Rogers (400-meters, 54.62), Curtis Meinke (pole vault, 8-0), Christian Kapteyn (110 hurdles, 17.27), Alex Diggs (300 hurdles, 47.42), the 3,200-meter relay team of Shepard, Jackson, Mast and Rogers (9:49.9), the 800 relay team of Cooper, Patrick, Nesmith and Tallent (1:42.0) and the 400 relay team of Cooper, Culbert, Nesmith and Patrick (49.01).
MARSHALL 8, LESLIE 0: Marshall swept the non-conference matchup with wins from Natalie Tucker (No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3); Melanie Busse (No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1); Isabel Saville (No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0); Carly Holcomb (No. 4 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1); Sydney Bies and Tayler Karns (No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-0); Erica Chamberlain and Kennedy Karns (No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-0); Lizzy Samra and Liv Lounds (No. 3 doubles, 6-1, 6-0); and Chloe Weber and Polina Sheboleava (No. 4 doubles, 6-0, 6-1).
