A potential state title contender, the Fossil Ridge High School boys golf team opened the 2016 season with a win in the first match of the season Thursday.
The SaberCats took first at the opening Front Range League meet at Flatirons Golf Course in Boulder.
Fossil Ridge won at 293 points, with Fairview second at 298. Rocky Mountain was eighth at 335, Fort Collins was ninth at 340 and Poudre was 12th at 367.
SaberCat teammates Josh Caridi and Dillon Stewart — along with Boulder’s Freddie Gluck — tied for first individually at 70. Fossil Ridge’s Jack Hastings was eighth at 74.
Rocky Mountain’s Cam Nagel was 10th with a round of 76, tying with Fort Collins’ Sam Hammock.
Thursday was the first day of competition for the 2016-17 school year, with boys golf the first sport to begin.
Windsor wins Tri-Valley meet — Windsor’s Cole Krantz opened the season strong, winning the first Tri-Valley Conference meet. He finished one stroke over par at Pelican Lakes Golf Course, two strokes ahead of the second-place finisher.
Windsor’s Zach Caison was tied for seventh and Mitchell Rasmussen finished tied for 10th. Windsor finished second as a team at 18 strokes over par. Sterling was first at plus-12.
