THREE RIVERS – The Harper Creek boys cross country team placed first out of 12 squads at Tuesday’s Three Rivers ‘Big Hill’ Invitational.
The Beavers finished with 36 points, followed by Marshall in second with 71 points and Bronson in third with 131 points. Union City placed 12th with 318 points.
Scoring for Harper Creek were Drew Vanwagner (second, 18:27), Tommy Shaw (fourth, 18:42), Devon Funk (seventh, 18:54), Drew Haller (ninth, 19:33) and Jaden Costa (14th, 20:09).
Marshall was paced by Garrett Bailey (10th, 19:42), Calvin Smith (11th, 19:47), Brett Carlisle (15th, 20:17), Nick Lumsden (17th, 20:19) and Drew Deitrich (18th, 20:24).
Bronson was led by Colin Ransbottom (12th, 19:53), Blake Bucklin (16th, 20:18), Marcus Broom (20th, 20:27), Luis Depaz (40th, 21:43) and Socorro Aguilar (43rd, 21:55).
Union City’s top runners were Grant Gay (27th, 20:48), Cameron Turley (65th, 23:46), Bradley Russell (74th, 26:03), Owen Needham (75th, 26:03) and Steven Fisk (77th, 28:23).
In the girls competition, Marshall placed first with 42 points, edging second-place Harper Creek with 50 points. Athens was sixth with 176 and Union City placed 10th with 279 points.
Marshall’s Rachel Schoepke was the overall winner in 21:39. Also scoring for the Redhawks were Abby St. John (fifth, 23:20), Ava Klein (seventh, 23:32), Meagan Schoepke (14th, 25:24) and Hannah Delmotte (15th, 25:29).
Harper Creek was led by Catie Scott (sixth, 23:29), Emma Berning (ninth, 24:19), Danielle Stewart (10th, 24:34), Allegera Baird (12th, 25:15) and Julianna Adams (13th, 25:21).
Athens was led by Corra Hamilton (third, 22:37), Adriana Holmquist (28th, 27:25), Skylar Golyar (42nd, 29:57), Alora Garcia (47th, 30:53) and Miranda Brubaker (56th, 33:53).
Union City’s top finishers were Marionna Bigelow (35th, 28:29), Angelica Iobe (54th, 33:43), Grace Speneli (61st, 35:36), Aja Cornwell (63rd, 35:49) and Emily Wood (66th, 44:08).
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
ST. JOE INVITE: In the 11th and 12th grade race, Lakeview placed first with 13 points, led by Maggie Farrell (first, 17:54), Logann Haluszka (third, 19:10) and Maggie Wood (ninth, 20:28). The Spartans also won the 9th and 10th grade race with nine points, led by Sarah Lyon (first, 20:10) and Avery Truex (eighth, 20:46).
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
ST. JOE INVITE: Lakeview placed fifth in the 11th and 12th grade race, led by Scott Bridges (eighth, 17:48). Andrew Joslyn (12th, 18:19) and Nate Wiley (16th, 18:42). In the 9th and 10th grade race, Lakeview finished fifth with 17 points, led by Joe Wood (eighth, 18:21) and Keegan Aimesbury (ninth, 18:26).
(AT) CALHOUN CHRISTIAN 5, BELLEVUE 0: Diego Campos scored three goals and Ben Swagler added two more in the win for the Calhoun Christian/St. Philip co-op. Peter Momeyer, Charlie Snyder, Tyler Fuller, Ben Ostrander and Davis Spencer had an assist apiece.
COLDWATER 6, KALAMAZOO CENTRAL 4: Coldwater overcame a 4-2 deficit in the second half to rally for the win and stay unbeaten on the season at 3-0. Mana Ahmed scored three goals and had an assist to lead the Cardinals. Shuaib Aljabaly, Jacob Knaack and Mohamed Nagi also scored, with an assist coming from John Brownell. Balal Nasser made seven saves in goal.
EAST KENTWOOD MINI TOURNEY: Gull Lake won the tournament, defeating St. Johns (20-25, 25-20, 15-5), Muskegon Reeths-Puffer (25-18, 25-13) and Caledonia (25-20, 22-25, 17-15). The Blue Devils were led by Kenzy Corstange with 23 kills and 32 digs; Jenna Burkhardt had 20 kills, two blocks and seven digs; Lauren Esman had 33 assists, 27 digs and eight kills; and Lexie Beeke had 29 assists, five kills and 17 digs.
PENNFIELD 3, LESLIE (MON.): Posting wins for Pennfield were Alex Lachance and Landon Saxton (No. 1 doubles), Lars Bennett and Matt Crespo (No. 2 doubles) and Max Jackson and Robert Cato (No. 3 doubles).
