Jeffersonville girls basketball earned its first win of the season Friday in the form of a 53-36 victory over visiting Silver Creek – the Red Devils’ fifth straight win over the Dragons.
Britney Epperson led Jeffersonville with 14 points, while Nan Garcia added eight. Jasmine Lilly chipped in seven for the Red Devils.
Now 1-2 on the year, Jeffersonville used a late first-quarter run to jump out to an 18-9 lead after one. The Red Devils led by 10 at the break – despite Lauren Polston’s 13 first-half points – and extended the advantage to 41-25 after three en route the sizeable win.
Jeffersonville turns around to host Bedford North Lawrence on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Stars were a perfect 4-0 as of late Friday night. BNL faced Class 4A No. 4 North Central in a game that ended after press time. Silver Creek (1-4) moves on to a matchup with 3A No. 1 North Harrison, a winner in each of its first five games, on Wednesday.
Eastern 81, Borden 37: The Musketeers made quick work of the Braves to move to 3-1 on the year. Borden fell to 1-2. Rachel Stewart led Eastern with 32 points in three quarters. The Musketeers led 61-16 heading into the fourth. Riley Schindler paced the Braves with 15 points.
Eastern takes on Providence Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. The Pioneers fell to 2-1 Friday following a loss at New Albany. Borden, meanwhile, looks to shake its skid against Trinity Lutheran Wednesday at home.
Corydon 61, Charlestown 60: Allysa Edwards nailed a game-winning 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining to lift the Panthers to a win over the visiting Pirates. The senior scored only three points for Corydon, now 4-2 on the year, but they proved to be the difference. Charlestown fell to 2-2 with the loss.
North Central 61, BNL 37: The Stars (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season by way of a rout at Class 4A No. 4 Indianapolis North Central. BNL meets host Jeffersonville in a Hoosier Hills clash on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Henryville 54, New Washington 45: The Hornets improved to 6-1 with a win over the host Mustangs (1-3). Henryville takes on Brownstown Saturday, while New Washington travels to Shawe Memorial.
Austin 56, Paoli 55: The Class 2A seventh-ranked Eagles (3-0) edged the Rams (2-2) to stay perfect. Austin travels to Scottsburg for a rivalry matchup with the Warriorettes on Tuesday.
Brownstown 46, Mitchell 28: The Braves moved to 4-0 with an easy win over the Bluejackets (2-3) and will look to remain unbeaten against Henryville on Saturday. Brownstown dropped a three-point decision to the Hornets last season.
