The No. 10 Fort Collins High School boys’ soccer team was able to hold off a furious rally by Fossil Ridge in the last five minutes to walk away with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first half, Fort Collins’ Derrick Eberling was rushing towards the net on a semi-breakaway when a Fossil Ridge defender slid in and knocked the ball loose past his own goalie for an own goal, which gave the Lambkins (6-2-2, 5-2 FRL) the only goal they would end up needing to earn the win.
Alex Snavely had a monster game in net, finishing with 10 saves, including a clutch one-handed save in the final 40 seconds as he fully extended to preserve the lead.
The Sabercats (4-6, 4-4 FRL) had their fair share of chances, including two shots that hit the post but were unable to get anything past Snavely.
LIBERTY COMMON 10, ESTES PARK 0 — Liberty Common pounced on Estes Park with 10 goals in a game that ended at halftime. The Eagles (6-3-1, 3-1 Patriot League) have now outscored their opponents by an astonishing 17-0 in their last two games. Evan Walter and Michael Hofinger both had two goals apiece and eight different players found the back of the net for the Eagles.
GREELEY WEST 2, POUDRE 1 (OT) — The Impalas (3-6-1, 2-5 FRL) fell in overtime to Greeley West.
DAWSON SCHOOL 2, HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 1 — Heritage Christian led 1-0 at halftime but Dawson School was able to score twice in the second half to secure the win. Branden Lesondak scored for the Eagles on an assist from Joshua Damir.
FORT COLLINS 9, LEGACY 6 — Fort Collins (11-7, 8-3 FRL) used 14 hits to pull off a huge win over Legacy. Hana Mawlawi had two doubles and drove in four runs and Rachel Jones went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Lambkins.
FOSSIL RIDGE 10, MOUNTAIN RANGE 7 — No. 5 Fossil Ridge (15-3, 9-3 FRL) were able to overcome six errors on the field with a stellar offensive performance, tallying 10 runs on 17 hits. Jayden Mercado went 4-for-4 and scored three runs while Hayley Henderson was 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs batted in.
FREDERICK 6, WINDSOR 4 — Frederick used a four-run seventh inning to narrowly beat Windsor (9-8-1, 7-6 Tri-Valley).
RESURRECTION CHRISTIAN 3, ESTES PARK 0 — The Cougars won their homecoming match with a sweep (25-14, 25-10, 25-13). Keighan Miller led the attack with six kills and Saylor Webb passed for 20 assists. Kyra Zuhlke had a strong game blocking, finishing with five for the Cougars (11-3, 4-3 Patriot).
HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 3, GILPIN COUNTY 0 — The Eagles (10-4, 4-2 Mile High) earned a sweep at home (25-18, 25-14, 25-21). Jacqueline Flynt nearly reached a double-double with 10 aces and eight kills. Ashley Glasgow was a rock defensively with 23 digs.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 3, POUDRE 0 — The Lobos (9-5, 4-3 FRL) controlled all three sets to earn a sweep (25-12, 25-11, 25-10) over crosstown opponent Poudre. Carly Bowles and Myles Hilbert had big nights passing. Bowles tallied 24 assists, and Hilbert added 21. Amelia Berg led the attack with seven kills, and Allie McEndaffer had five service aces.
FORT COLLINS 3, LOVELAND 0 — Fort Collins (8-4, 5-2 FRL) used a balanced effort in phases of the game to sweep Loveland at home (25-15, 25-17, 25-19). Kaina Roehrkasse had seven kills, while Hannah Serbousek notched six. Erika Jones finished with 21 digs. Fort Collins takes on Fossil Ridge on Thursday.
WINDSOR 3, ERIE 1 — The Wizards won the first set, lost the second and then won the final two to beat Erie (25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18). Madi Bruen posted 16 kills while Ally Kennis and Samantha Greene were stoppers at the net. Kennis had six blocks, and Greene posted five. Brenna Garrett scored five aces and dished out 20 assists.
FOSSIL RIDGE 3, GREELEY WEST 0 — The SaberCats (12-1, 7-0 FRL) won a lopsided match over Greeley West (25-5, 25-19, 25-9). Catie Semadeni led with nine kills and Brynn Montgomery had eight.
LIBERTY COMMON 3, STRASBURG 1 — The Eagles won a four set match on the road Tuesday night (25-19, 25-17, 22-25. 25-8).
