The unbeaten Rancho Mirage High School boys’ basketball team got its first scare of the season on Friday, but gutted out a victory over Twentynine Palms.
With the game tied 70-70 late, the Rattlers finished on a 6-1 run to snare the 76-71 win.
Charles Neal finished with 31 points, while Daryn Evans chipped in with 22 points including a perfect 11 of 11 at the free throw line. Tyrell Robinson had 10 points.
For Twentynine Palms, Dshaun Barrett had 25 points.
Rancho Mirage (17-0, 4-0) plays at noon Monday at LACES High School in Los Angeles against Renaissance Academy in the MLK Classic.
Palm Desert 80, Coachella Valley 30: The Aztecs cruised past the Arabs, allowing only nine points after halftime in a DVL win.
Will Struthers led Palm Desert with 25 points including seven of the team’s 12 3-pointers. Gunnar Mogolis had 14 points (4 3-pointers), while Dalton Casserly-Simmons and Brian Devlin each had nine points. Alex McGrath had eight points and three assists, Dakota Romero had four assists and played great defense and Levi Garner had the other 3-pointer.
Palm Desert (12-5, 4-1) play Mission Viejo at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Palm Springs Desert Classic at Palm Springs High School.
Shadow Hills 43, Desert Mirage 40: The Knights nipped the Rams for a narrow De Anza League victory.
In the loss for Desert Mirage, Robert Ayala had nine points and six rebounds.
Indio 49, Cathedral City 26: The Rajahs got their third win of the week, behind Jazmyne Santiel’s 22 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Mounia Mkadmi added 11 points and four steals, while D’Neesya Baxter had 13 points, eight boards and two blocks.
Indio (7-11, 4-0) host rival Coachella Valley on Tuesday at Ray Adams Gym.
Speaking of Ray Adams, current coach Martin White won his 218th game Friday moving him one ahead of Adams, the legendary Indio coach, in career victories at the school.
Shadow Hills 47, Desert Mirage 41: Freshman phenom Dominique Urbina had a career-high 28 points to go with four assists and six steals to lead the Knights.
Jada Toland added 10 points, six rebounds and four steals.
Shadow Hills (10-5, 4-1) hosts DHS on Friday.
Desert Christian Academy 56, Redlands Adventist 34: Abby Wagner paced the Conquerors with 16 points and five steals. Grace Johnson chipped in with 13 points and three blocks, while Ashley Klopfenstein adding 12 points.
The Conquerors, ranked sixth in Division 6, move to 9-7 overall and 4-1 in league play. They host Mesa Grande Academy, ranked No. 4, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
Rancho Mirage 9, Twentynine Palms 0: A first-half hat trick by Kenya Cordero got the Rattlers off and running in this easy league win.
Jaidah Martin, Cindy Martinez and Nayeli Peguero all scored twice in the rout. Peguero added two assists. Jasmin Sterlin and Graci Ayala also had two assists each. Martin, Cordero, Kat Valenzuela and Fernanda Mercado had one assist.
Rancho Mirage (8-5-1, 3-1) hosts Yucca Valley on Wednesday.
San Diego Jewish 2, West Shores 1: The 10th-ranked Wildcats got a goal from Horacio Sanchez but it wasn’t enough. San Diego took the lead with four minutes left in the game on an own goal by West Shores to snag the win.
West Shores (8-5) hosts rival Borrego Springs at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
