The Xavier Prep baseball team pulled off an extra-innings 5-4 victory over DVL foe Coachella Valley in 10 innings on Tuesday. Ryan Van Meeteren pitched five innings, giving up one earned run and a walk, while striking out five in the win.
Oscar Carrillo went 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs, while Winston Alfieri was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The Arabs and Saints play again at Xavier Prep on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Indio 6, Cathedral City 0: On the mound, Ricardo Torres picked up the shutout win in six innings with three strikeouts and just three hits. At the plate, Mikey Munoz led the charge, going 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, while Dominic Huerta also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Rajahs (10-5, 2-1) will play next on Friday at home against the Lions at 6:30 p.m.
Shadow Hills 16, Desert Mirage 0: Miguel Bautista picked up the shutout victory with three innings pitched, striking out eight. Kevin Morden led the offensive charge at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases, while TJ Lew, Hunter Torres, Alex Bejjani and Christian Wisler each went 2-for-2. Sean Roby and Lew both knocked home runs.
The Knights (10-5, 3-0) play next against Big Bear at home on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.
Coachella Valley 28, Cathedral City 3: Tati Martinez led the Arabs in a strong offensive outing with six hits, including a triple and home run with six RBIs and five runs. Vanessa Madera, Natalie Hurtado, Alex Espinosa, Iliana Corona and Rebecca Alford all picked up three hits, and Maria Gonzalez added five runs.
The Arabs (10-7, 2-1) play next at La Quinta on Friday.
Shadow Hills 16, Desert Mirage 6: Rebecca Sanchez led the Knights with three hits, including two doubles, three RBIs and three runs. Alexia Terrazas added three hits, while Marisol Gallegos knocked a hit and an RBI.
The Knights are now 3-0 in league play.
Palm Desert 26, Xavier Prep 0: Carly Williams and Trinity Villa combined for a three-hit shutout. The Aztecs combined for 18 hits, including four from Sydney Sprinkle, who scored five runs and knocked in three RBIs..
Villa went 3-for-3 with five runs and three RBIs. Jamiana Gateb, Shawna Aguerrebere and Williams each had two hits.
The Aztecs (5-6, 1-1) play next on Thursday at Hemet.
Desert Christian Academy 5, Bloomington Christian 4: Jahzell Estrada picked up the win, giving up two walks and four hits while striking out 10. Ashley Klopfenstein finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two stolen bases, two runs and an RBI, while Abby Wagner went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a stolen base.
The Conquerors (9-4-1, 3-0) play next on Tuesday at home against Redlands Adventist Academy at 3:30 p.m.
La Quinta 212, Rancho Mirage 236: Despite the team loss, DJ Sailor led the Rattlers (4-4, 3-2) with a medalist round of 35, followed by Benny Leung’s 44, Mauricio Alvarez’s 46, Brandon Gonzalez’s 52 and Marcos Lopez’s 59.
Daniel Martini led La Quinta (12-2, 6-1) with a 39, followed by Cam Winslow’s 41, Tyler Sanchez’s 43, Jonathan Rojas’s 44, Paden Duncan’s 45 and Nick Worsen’s 48.
Palm Desert 193, Palm Springs 276: The Aztecs cruised to victory at Desert Willow, led by 36s by Derrick Liu and Adam Co, along with a 39 from Zane Rhodes and 41s from Justin McKendry and Ben Lewis.
The Aztecs (5-1 in DVL) play next on Thursday at The Classic Club against Xavier Prep.
Palm Desert 14, Palm Springs 4: The Aztecs picked up a dominating DVL victory against the Indians, including singles wins from Connor Rapp (6-0), Alex Kuperstein (6-0), Christian Kontaxis (6-0), Quinn Bush (6-0),Nick Garcia (6-0, 6-4) and Christian Rozpedski (6-0).
In doubles, Brad Cummins and Luciano Ferrer (6-0), Brendan Russell and Santiago Gomez (6-0), Hanull Joh and Hansull Joh (6-2, 6-2), Sam Trudeau and Jack Renker (6-3) and Naveed Asgharpour and Josh Phillips (6-4, 6-2) picked up wins.
Xavier Prep 14, Coachella Valley 4: Umrith Bajaj swept his three singles sets to lead the Saints, along with wins from Topher Saliba (6-0, 6-3) and Mason May (7-5). In doubles, Brett Miraglia and Nico Tahernia (6-0, 6-0, 6-1) and Jared Clark and Will Yang (6-4, 6-2) picked up victories.
Next, the Saints hit the courts on Thursday against Palm Desert at 3:15 p.m.
La Quinta 13, Rancho Mirage 5: The Blackhawks won eight of nine singles matches with Gabriel Hermant (6-2, 6-2, 6-0), Clayton Carlson (6-4, 6-2, 6-2) and Kai Marin (6-4, 6-0) grabbing wins.
In doubles, Phillip Ross and Jaret Prahl (6-0, 6-1), Dylan Huber and Alex Cazares (7-6, 6-0) and Ramon Ruiz and Gerardo Cortez (6-2) grabbed victories.
