Volleyball: Providence dropped a 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 26-24) decision at Louisville Mercy Wednesday night after its season-opening win over Silver Creek Tuesday.

The Pioneers, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, take on three of the top 15 teams in Kentucky at the Tates Creek Invitational on Saturday.

Silver Creek avenged its season-opening loss with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-3, 25-14) sweep of Salem Wednesday.

The Dragons travel to Henryville Thursday night to complete a three-game road stretch before the team’s home opener Tuesday against Scottsburg.

Clarksville came away with a win at Southwestern in a five-set thriller 25-15, 15-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12 to improve to 2-0.

Boys Tennis: Floyd Central topped Providence 4-1. The Highlanders travel to Seymour on Thursday. Scores:

Boys soccer: After lightning halted Monday’s matchup, Jeffersonville and Fairdale tied 3-3 Wednesday night in Kentuckiana Cup play. Monday’s game was stopped with the Red Devils leading 2-1 with 14 minutes left in the first half.

Late Tuesday:

Medalist Hallie Hinton paced North Harrison to a win at Old Capital Tuesday with a score of 36. The Cougars’ total was 188, with Corydon (220), Eastern (250) and CAI (264) rounding out the group.

New Albany girls soccer won its season opener handily in a 7-1 final over Forest Park. Jeffersonville boys beat Louisville Eastern 4-3 in Kentuckiana Cup play.

In volleyball, Brownstown defeated Eastern 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-16) Tuesday.
