Each year, Rye steps up to help a neighbor with it’s Hockey vs. Hunger program.

The Garnets are collecting non-perishable food items to help stock the nearby Carver Center pantry. If you’re going to watch tonight’s game against Mamaroneck, you can help. Bring a non-perishable food item to Playland and leave it in the designated bin. The game is scheduled to start at 8:15.

A list of items most in demand includes, rice (one-pound boxes or bags), beans (one-pound boxes or bags), pasta (one-pound boxes or bags), tomato sauce, tuna, canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, preserved milk, cake mix and cooking oil.

If you can’t make it to a game, there are collection bins in the middle school lobby, and the high school lobby and cafeteria.

The second Hockey vs. Hunger game is scheduled for Jan. 27 against New Rochelle.
