A team from Texas remains atop the USA TODAY High School Sports/National Soccer Coaches Association of America Super 25 girls soccer rankings for the winter season, but it’s a different team from the Lone Star State.
Sachse, which was No. 7 in the previous rankings two weeks ago, moves up to the No. 1 spot. With the end of the regular season approaching, Sachse has clinched its fourth consecutive district championship. Even more impressive, it has done it despite season-ending injuries to two of its top players – Texas Tech signee Jordie Harr and Oklahoma State signee Kirsten Siragusa. Harr is among the top players in the nation and is a two-time Gatorade Texas Player of the Year.
Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) moved into the rankings at No. 2 after a pair of victories against Tesoro to conclude its season – a 3-1 victory in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 final and a 5-0 win in the CIF Southern California Regional Division I final.
American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), the Florida Class 3A champion, remains No. 3 and Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) remains No. 4.
Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) is the second of four newcomers, entering the rankings at No. 5 after winning its fourth consecutive CIF Southern California Regional Division II title with a 2-1 victory against Palos Verdes.
No. 9 Mount Carmel Academy (New Orleans) and No. 10 South Hills (West Covina, Calif.) also are new to the rankings.
